India is a fast growing economy and is predicted to be an economic superpower by the year 2050. This economic rise of India can be attributed to the development of Information Technology and the ITES and BPO industries. Unfortunately, even with all these developments, a significant population still lives below the poverty line. The most affected section of society is children. As per the latest statistics, there are 44 million underprivileged children in India . They become victim to circumstances, are abused, and eventually end up on the streets, a menace and a burden to society.

Reaching Hand was birthed in our hearts with a vision of helping the needy, build the people, serving the poor and caring for the rejected.

Reaching Hand was registered as a charitable trust in 1996. We have at present 6 honorary trustees who have dedicated themselves to see that the vision is brought to reality.

Our accomplishments until now are as follows:

1. SCHOLARSHIPS: We have so far awarded scholarships to 217 children. The recipients of these scholarships were carefully selected.

2. NEW HOME: In January 2006, we were able to establish our first children's home.

IMMEDIATE PLANS:

As we are immensely encouraged by the results of the first New Home project, we have decided to start 3 more similar New Homes.

The next project we are planning to initiate is to serve the poor through Balawadis. These are primary schools with basic facilities to provide basic education to children in city slums and distant villages. In order to ensure that the children attend these literacy programs, this will be accompanied by feeding programs where breakfast and lunch are provided to the children on program attendance. This will help in parental cooperation for the literacy programs. As they grow up, we also plan to teach them skills that will help them to earn a living. We also have a desire and a passion to start a self reliance programs for underprivileged like the mute etc. Immediately we are starting a program for the mute.

In the long run, we are planning to start charitable clinics, old age homes, and hospitals.

In order to bring this vision to reality, we are looking for people or organizations with a heart to serve the poor and underprivileged in society, to join hands and partner with us in this endeavor. We assure you that the satisfaction of seeing lives transformed will challenge you to do more with your lives.
